Hair Pulling Help - An Open Letter to Compulsive Hair Pullers
Do You or Someone You Know Suffer From Compulsive Hair Pulling?
For those of you who are currently experiencing compulsive hair pulling, you can, in all likelihood relate to the living hell that is Trichotillomania. Still, there are others who don’t quite understand what is happening to them, or why. They continue to search for possible clues or answers for the way they are feeling. Or, perhaps it’s a loved one, a daughter, or a friend who is the sufferer.
Understand that Trichotillomania is considered to be a compulsive or addictive behavior. Compulsive behaviors are defined as acts of performing trivial or repetitive actions against your will. There are no proven medical cures for compulsive behaviors such as hair pulling. Addictive behaviors are defined as abnormally strong cravings.
People develop addiction to numb themselves from the pain of a more deep-rooted problem. Whether you have family problems, problems with school, or problems with friendships, an addiction provides you with control in an otherwise uncontrollable situation. Because of the lack of proven medical treatments, a compulsion mindset makes you think you’ll have to suffer your whole life-long to find a way to live with the affliction instead of treating it and ultimately recovering from it. But, by changing the way you think about hair pulling, you are able to change the control it has over your life.
A tremendous number of people conquer addictions every day. It is hard work, but people actually can come out on the other side, stronger and happier for their efforts. Often times the hardest part is taking that first step, and admitting that hair pulling has become an addiction. There’s a stigma associated with an addiction that prevents us from saying we are addicts. Even though to do so could be empowering, hair pullers rarely use the word addiction to refer to themselves.
As alone as a hair puller may feel, there as many as 15 million others who suffer from this seemingly unstoppable compulsion and addiction.
Now, just for a moment, stop and imagine what it would be like to never have another urge to pull; to never need to feel the urge, the sensation of it. To never actually pull another single strand of hair, eyelash or eyebrow. Do you feel that because of all the different things you’ve tried, all the money you have spent - and were not successful - that there can be no hope? That there is no hope for healing this compulsive behavior that has hold of you?
There’s an old saying, “To try when there is little hope, is to risk failure. Not to try at all, is to guarantee it.” Stop and think about that for a moment. The sad fact is, giving up ends up being self-fulfilling failure. When one gives up trying for something, they always end up being right - that they will never able to get whatever it was they were trying for.
Never give up on trying to heal yourself, or helping a loved one heal themself.
Let me ask you this, what if I told you about a person out there with a program designed specifically for hair pullers. What would you do? What if I told you there was a good chance this program just might be the answer you have been looking for. How would you feel about it? Now, what if I told you that this person, with this program is a 27-year compulsive hair puller - who has been pull-free for 13 years. Would you be curious? Would you even take a look?
Of course you would! Why? Because it’s obvious to you that she might know what she’s talking about. You realize it makes perfect sense there is a real good chance, that after pulling her own hair for 27 years, and being able to stop totally, that she might know exactly what you are going through and be able to help you, or your loved one.
Abby Rohrer is that person. She is a hair pulling expert and the author of numerous books on hair pulling and of Pull Free At Last! a program for ending Trichotillomania that you can do from the privacy of your own home. Are you unhappy and frustrated with all the medical solutions that have not been successful for you? If so, perhaps you owe it to yourself to at least check into a non-medical process and program that has been proven successful for a former 27-year compulsive hair puller, as well as hundreds of other hair pullers. Abby Rohrer is someone who has been to the hell that is Trichotillomania….and back. She is also someone who, unlike many who offer medical solutions without having been there themself, is truly capable of understanding what you’ve been through, what you’re going through now, and more importantly, what you need to do stop your hair pulling and begin your healing process.
